ABOUT US
The Oxford Educational Foundation was organized by a group of interested citizens in July of 1994. Our mission, according to a statement adopted by our Board, is to "Enhance the quality of education in the Oxford Area School District and contribute to the success of Oxford students by generating financial support to maximize the use of community volunteers in the schools and to enrich curricular and co-curricular activities of the school district." The core of our mission is based on two beliefs: that the citizens of this community have a huge stake in the success of our schools, and second, that the citizens of the community can contribute in major ways to that success. We have enormous respect for the professional skills of our teachers (in fact, our first major contribution was from the Teachers' Association) and we salute the dedication of our school board and its administrative team, all of whom have been very supportive of our work. But in the end it is the level of community commitment to the success of the schools that will be decisive.
Each year we plan to contribute a piece of equipment to the schools or support for an educational program which the school system could not afford out of its regular budget. We welcome suggestions for projects in future years. Oxford is not a wealthy district; in fact, in terms of the value of taxable real estate property, it is one of the poorest districts in Chester County. But we are rich in human resources. Many local citizens are already volunteering in the schools, serving as aides, mentors, tutors, coaches, etc. We hope to vastly increase the number and variety of such volunteers, making a real contribution to the quality of an Oxford education.
All this, of course, takes hard work, which we are ready to supply in abundance, and money. You can help in two ways:
Your children, your neighbors' children, and your community will be grateful. Ultimately, you personally as well as your community at-large will benefit from a generation of better educated students. So much has been said about education reform; take it upon yourself to help your community do the reform it finds necessary!
